Loic Remy has warned Diego Costa that he didn’t join Chelsea just to be on the substitute bench, reports the London Evening Standard.

Remy recently penned a four year deal at Stamford Bridge, having signed in a ÂŁ10 million deal from newly promoted side Queens Park Rangers, following a season on loan away from Loftus Road at Newcastle United, where he scored 14 goals for the Magpies last season.

The striker is yet to start for Chelsea this season, with Diego Costa in fine form for Chelsea since his ÂŁ32 million summer move from Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish international scoring four goals in his first three Premier League games.

However the first shots seemed to have been fired from Remy, who stated to Costa that he does not want to just sit on the bench at the West London club.

“They are one of the best clubs in the world,” Remy is quoted in the Mirror.

“I know I won’t start out as first-choice striker at Chelsea, but nothing is set in stone. I have my aims.

“I didn’t sign for them in order to sit on the bench. I will try to improve as much as I can alongside their great players, and the rest will happen naturally.”

He added: “When the chance comes up to join a club like Chelsea you can’t say no.

“The deal was done late in the evening. I was prepared to stay at QPR, but I didn’t hesitate for a second when Chelsea came along.”
