Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui talked about how he will handle Real Madrid’s goalkeeping setup that has Keylor Navas and Thibaut Courtois. Yesterday, Thibaut Courtois made his La Liga debut for the club against Leganes. Real Madrid got the lead thanks to Gareth Bale in the 17th minute. However, Leganes won a penalty shortly after and Guido Carrillo converted from the spot to equalise.

Then, three minutes into the second half, Karim Benzema restored Real’s lead before adding a second in the 61st minute. In the 66th minute, Real won a penalty which Sergio Ramos converted to make the score 4-1.

Following the win, Lopetegui said, “I didn’t give any roadmap, but we knew he (Courtois) was going to play this match and I won’t say any more. We have three great goalkeepers and we’ll try to find the best solutions. We decided that Courtois would play this time, but we have excellent options. Keylor Navas is our player and had a great game against Girona, before being named the best goalkeeper by UEFA.

We’ll see how it goes, with the decision to be made on the pitch. We do, though, have an idea of what we’ll do.”

Thibaut Courtois said that he has no sort of rivalry with Navas despite the competition. Courtois said, ”Keylor Navas and I get on really well. Sometimes I see that the press want to look for controversy, but we’re both competing really well and always training to the maximum. Competition makes you give more of yourself. There is competition for every spot at the best club in the world.”

Los Blancos are at the top of the table and next play Athletic Bilbao on September 15 after the international break.
