Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his interest in Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, with a £10 million bid reported to be offered in the upcoming transfer window.
However, United boss Louis Van Gaal is reportedly prepared to do whatever it takes to deny the Gunners of any chance of luring the Englishman to The Emirates.
Van Gaal is currently enduring a difficult spell on the defensive front, with notable injuries for Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans. Thus resulting in Van Gaal’s complete refusal to sell Smalling, especially to Champions League qualification rivals Arsenal.
Wenger made a bid for the 24-year-old in the summer, which was rejected by United respectively.
It is understood, however, that Van Gaal will make his decision on Smalling’s future at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
