According to reports, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has made Mario Gomez his main transfer target for the January transfer window.
The Dutchman wants to strengthen the centre-forward department, as United only have Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and James Wilson pushing for that particular position.
Gomez is currently on loan at Besiktas from Fiorentina and has been in solid form, scoring nine goals in all competitions so far this season.
And Turkish media outlet Fanatik have claimed that van Gaal will use his previous working experience with Gomez to try and lure him to Old Trafford; the pair worked together at Bayern Munich between 2009 and 2011.
Complications with the deal
Ultimately, an accepted bid for the 30-year old would have to see his Besiktas deal cut short, which could be a roadblock as they won’t take that potential decision lightly.
However, it is believed that the Red Devils have compiled a shortlist of attacking quality should their Gomez attempts fall through. The list is believed to contain names such as Leroy Sane, who is strongly linked with Liverpool.
