Lucas Digne has thanked Everton for their belief in him as he feels his move to the Premier League club has re-established him on the French national setup.

Digne arrived from Barcelona in the summer and has been a constant on the left side of the defence under the tutelage of Marco Silva. The 25 year old was recalled by Didier Deschamps for the UEFA Nations League and will be vying for a place with Lucas Hernandez.

Following a slow start to this season Digne has gradually become a preferred choice and has forced Leighton Baines to the bench. Baines had been the number one choice at Goodison Park for the past few years but the French international is expected to be his long term successor.

Digne said, ‘I think it (moving to Everton) is so important to my recall.

“When I came here I wanted to play every week, to enjoy it and discover a new country, a new league, and then see what happens (with France), but now I am so happy.

“I want to say thank you to my team-mates, the coach and the staff and the fans too because they helped me a lot to get the recall.

“We have one friendly game against Iceland and then we play Germany in the Nations League. Every game is important for the national team.

“You are representing your country and it’s important to prove you deserve your place.”
