Lucas Digne says he would have preferred a victory rather than netting his first goal for Everton against atford in the Premier League.

Digne saved his best for the last as he curled in a brilliant free kick to salvage a point for Everton. The Toffees were trailing against Watford and needed a moment of spark to rescue them.

Abdoulaye Doucoure’s 65th minute header had propelled the Hornets towards a deserving victory. Gylfi Sigurdsson missed a golden chance to hit back as he saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Ben Foster to disrupt the proceedings.

But in the added minutes the former Barcelona left back provided a moment of class as he opened his Everton account with a scintillating free kick to stun Watford.

Digne said, “I feel like I can score and I said to Richi (Richarlison) to leave the free-kick to me.

“We saved the defeat and I’m happy with my goal but we would have preferred the win. We need to stay focused and continue the work.

“We are happy to be playing against two of the best teams next and we need to work this week to prepare in the best manner.”
