Liverpool have missed out on left-back

Liverpool have seemingly missed out on the opportunity to sign Lucas Digne from Paris Saint-Germain, with AS Roma expected to unveil him at the end of the week.

Brendan Rodgers has been in for the Frenchman all summer, with options at left-back slim at Anfield, but he has missed out on his number-one target with the Serie A side sneaking in and completing a deal.

According to reports, it will be a season-long loan initially before a chance to make it permanent the following season, but the Italian club expect to unveil him at the end of the week at the club’s open day.

Liverpool Miss Out

Liverpool are left with just one first-team left-back in Alberto Moreno, with Jose Enrique transfer listed and excluded from the first-team.

Rodgers could choose to deploy youngster Joe Gomez at left-back after he arrived from Charlton Athletic, but The Reds boss did admit that he didn’t want to rush the teenager during his debut season.

As for Digne, he has already said his goodbyes to his PSG team-mates as he prepares to complete his move away, and his agent has confirmed that it’s all about playing regular football ahead of the Euros next year.

Agent Confirms Move

“It’s simple, there are Euros at the end of the season and Lucas will no longer waste time,” he said.

“He wants to re-join the France squad for Euro 2016. And that can only happen with game time. He must be able to play in a big club and, above all, to have a starting spot. Otherwise, it’s not worth leaving PSG.”
