Arsenal new signing is a big fan of Paris Saint Germain midfielder Verratti.
Lucas Torreira, latest signing of the Gunners has revealed that PSG’s midfielder, Marco Verratti has been an inspiration for the 22 year old defensive midfielder.
Torreira has recently joined the Gunners on an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £26.4 million from Sampodoria. Lucas has been a part of the Italian club for 4 years. He joined the club in 2015 but was immediately loaned to Pescare, another italian club for 2 years. His first goal for Pescara came against FC Sudtirol in the 2015-16 Coppa Italia game.
Torreira has represented Pescara for 42 games across 2 years and was 6 times on the scoring sheet before moving back to Sampdoria for the 2016-17 season.
Torreira made the Serie A debut for Sampdoria against Empoli which was the first game of the season. He went on to represent the Italian club for 74 matches and scored on 4 occasions.
While speaking to the Arsenal media Torreira said, “I try to look up to the best players and steal something from all of them. ‘It is true that I really like Verratti. I spent two years in his former club Pescara and supporters compared me to him. I went on checking his style and I liked it.’
He also mentioned about his first World cup experience playing for Uruguay. He said, “I wasn’t part of the team during the World Cup qualifiers, but eventually I made it to the World Cup. It was marvellous to experience World Cup moments with the Uruguay squad family. I tried to enjoy the World Cup as much as I could.”
Torreira was apart of all the five matches played by Uruguay.
Arsenal supporters followed the Uruguayan player and details of which flight which the 22-year-old boarded to London was shared on social platforms. When the Arsenal media asked about it, he said,”No, I didn’t know about it, but I am here and I will see them all soon. For a while I’ve been receiving loads of messages in my social media accounts. I guess it’s all down to the fact there were talks of me moving to Arsenal even before the World Cup started”
“I am used to coping with this kind of thing in the best possible way. It’s a very positive thing that people want to welcome me. It makes me feel comfortable. Now I am calm and I look forward to the future, which for sure will be very nice.” he added.
