Spain manager Luis Enrique said he is happy with David De Gea’s performance against England in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday. Enrique had a winning start to his new managerial career as Spain came from behind to register a 2-1 win over the Three Lions at the Wembley Stadium.
Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford combined well to provide England with an early lead but it barely took a minute for the away side to restore parity through Saul Niguez. Valencia forward Rodrigo then sealed the win with a goal at the stroke of the 32nd minute.
De Gea was severely criticized for his shaky show at the World Cup but he was determined to prove his mettle in the Spain goal and the gaffer thinks the Manchester United keeper has grown up over the years.
“I’m happy with how De Gea performed. I never had doubts, his errors have helped him grow up.
“I was happy with the attitude of players throughout the game. But we must improve at the end of the game. We suffered but it’s always the case against England at Wembley.
“We had our chances to kill the game off, little details make the difference.”
