Barcelona star Luis Suarez believes that Messi’s omission from the ‘Best FIFA Men’s Player’ shortlist won’t affect his form. Messi scored 45 goals and provided 18 assists last season. He helped Barcelona to win the La Liga and Copa Del Ray. Despite this, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah were shortlisted for the award.

Luis Suarez has said that winning more trophies for Barcelona is more important to Messi rather than winning individual awards. He said, “I don’t think that any award [Messi] does or doesn’t win takes anything away from what he has won and what he keeps on achieving. It’s just like when I was scoring goals and deserved [to win] things, I was above all that. You prove yourself by working hard, with what you do in every game. The prizes that are worth more are the ones you win on the pitch.

An example of that is being top scorer: no one can take that away from you because you won it with the goals you scored, proving yourself on the pitch, not because of a vote by players and journalists.”

Messi has started this season really well. In four matches for Barcelona, he has scored four goals and has provided 3 assists. He helped Barca win the Spanish Super Cup.

Barcelona are at the top of the La Liga table at present, having won all of three matches so far. The Blaugrana next take on Real Sociedad at San Sebastian on Saturday. Real Sociedad are 8th in the table currently.
