Croatia captain Luka Modric has said that he is not thinking too much about winning Ballon d’Or. Modric and Croatia suffered heartbreak at Wembley yesterday as England came back from behind to beat them 2-1. England qualified for the Nations League Finals while Croatia got relegated to League B of the 2020-21 Nations League.

Speaking after Croatia’s defeat, Modric reiterated his statement of not being worried about the Ballon d’Or. The Real Madrid midfielder said, “I said last time I’m honoured to be in this competition for this great award. If it happened, no-one [will be] happier than me, but if not, nothing will change. My year was great and that’s it.”

2018 has been an incredible year for Modric. He won the Champions League in May before leading Croatia to the World Cup final in July. Modric scored two goals in the World Cup and won the Golden Ball for being the best player in the tournament.

The 33-year old won the Best Player in Europe and FIFA’s Best Player of the Year. Hence, many have considered Modric to be the favorite to win the Ballon d’Or. Whether he will win the award or not, it’s only two weeks before we find out.
