Real Madrid star Luka Modric has said that Real Madrid players were sure of Ronaldo not leaving the club that they all made bets among themselves. Following the club’s Champions League triumph, Ronaldo gave the hint that he would leave the club. He eventually joined Juventus after the World Cup.
Modric said that he was surprised by Ronaldo’s departure and Zidane’s resignation. Zinedine Zidane stepped down as Real Madrid manager a few days after they won the Champions League.
Modric said, “I wasn’t expecting either of the two to go. I didn’t think Zidane would leave and the same with Ronaldo. In fact when the rumours about Cristiano appeared, we had bets among ourselves. We were certain he would stay, but everyone makes their own decisions. Sometimes he’d play alongside us and it was incredible to see how elegant he was and how he moved over the pitch.”
In Modric’s absence, Croatia registered their first win after the World Cup by defeating Jordan 2-1. Goals from Domagoj Vida and substitute Matej Mitrovic gave the Croats a 2-0 lead before Baha’ Faisal scored a consolation for Jordan.
Real Madrid haven’t done very well lately as they have not won any of their last four matches. Los Blancos resume their La liga campaign on Saturday when they take on Levante.
