Spanish news publication, AS claims that Luka Modric is eager to extend his Real Madrid stay beyond the 2019/20 season.
The Croatian’s contract with the Galacticos is set to end in June 2020 but Florentino Perez is ready to offer him a one or two-year extension.
Plenty of reports have come out in the past linking Modric with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu. Some were claiming that Inter Milan were interested in signing the central midfielder while some predicted a return to former club, Tottenham Hotspur was highly possible.
The report from AS states that Modric was even considering a move to the Serie A but has now settled with the idea of retiring at Madrid. The Los Blancos hierarchy would certainly like to keep their 2018 Balon d’Or winner for the rest of his playing career.
Modric, 33 has been a key component in Madrid’s success over the years. He has won 4 UEFA Champions League medals with the club and 1 La Liga title.
Despite entering the final years of his playing career, the midfielder still is one of the most influential figures for the club on a regular basis. He continues to make regular appearances for the side, having made 30 this season and scoring thrice.
He is expected to be offered a higher salary which would make him one of the highest earners in the entire squad. Modric is said to be happy with his relationship with the club and how well his family is settled at the Spanish capital.
