Southampton could send a real message to the rest of the Premier League with results over Arsenal and Chelsea in the next few weeks, according to defender Luke Shaw.

The Saints are currently in third position, only behind Liverpool and Arsenal, which is their best Premier League start since 1983.

Highlights of the season so far for Mauricio Pochettino’s men is a victory at Anfield against Liverpool and a draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

One of their newest rising stars, Luke Shaw, believes that if they can go to Arsenal and then face Chelsea and get results from both of those matches, they will show they are geniune title contenders.

“The next two games we have got coming up will show whereabouts we are and whether we can challenge for the top,” the left-back said.

“If you take points from there, you know you are doing well.

“It is two of the biggest clubs in the league and hopefully we are going to go there positive to pick up points.”
