The Manchester United board are ready to sack manager Louis van Gaal if they lose their next to games at Newcastle United and Liverpool this week.

Van Gaal came under pressure as United chief over the Christmas period, as the Red Devils went on a seven-game winless run.

The former Netherlands manager was close to getting the boot following his sides 2-0 defeat Stoke City on Boxing Day, but he has been continuously supported by the club’s hierarchy so far.

United only just ran out 1-0 winners over League One side Sheffield United in the FA Cup at the weekend so things are looking slightly brighter at Old Trafford.

The United supporters in Old Trafford on Saturday were mocking Van Gaal and his men, sarcastically cheering when his side drew first blood after 70 minutes against the Blades.

Also, the Daily Star claim United’s owner the Glazer family are getting impatient and could now sack the Dutchman.

The speculation continues to grow surrounding his future as he could lose his job if United suffer consecutive defeats on away trips to Newcastle and Liverpool this week.

The Red Devils face Steve McClaren’s Magpies at St James’ Park tomorrow night prior to travelling to Anfield on Sunday as they face rivals Liverpool.

There is a range of managers that have been linked with being van Gaal’s replacement, including Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino and former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Spurs owner Daniel Levy is not willing to let Pochettino leave midway through the season, but there is talk of United legend Ryan Giggs being caretaker manager until the end of the campaign.

Mourinho would be another option as he is out of a job and is looking forward to getting back in management soon.

Van Gaal has revealed that the Red Devils are going through a rough patch after a Wayne Rooney penalty was the only goal that separated themselves against a club two leagues below, Sheffield United.

On their poor form, he said: “It is not only frustrating for the fans.

“The players and staff are frustrated as well.” Van Gaal added.
