Lyon deny Liverpool talks

Alexandre Lacazette has been linked with Premier League move

The Lyon president has categorically denied that Liverpool are in talks to sign star striker Alexandre Lacazette.

It had been reported yesterday, by French website Foot Mercato, that Brendan Rodgers had begun negotiations with the French club.

But president Jean Michel Aulas took to his Twitter account to rubbish these reports. He also mocked the fact that Liverpool can’t offer the player Champions League football.

Liverpool NOT In Talks

“Your information is false. Liverpool have not called and what European cup are they playing in? They have neither the means nor the interest.”

This is the latest blow for the Reds, as they seek to add goals to last season’s toothless strike force.

Troubled Strike-force

The trio of Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini mustered up just four league goals between them last campaign.

And with Daniel Sturridge’s constant injury problems, Liverpool are desperate to sign a top striker, to fill the gaping hole left by Luis Suarez’s departure.

Lacazette has scored 31 goals in 38 games in all competitions at the Stade Gerland. Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have a better goal scoring record this season than the French international.

Interest in Lacazette

Lacazette has been linked with a move to Arsenal, and the two Manchester clubs. Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain are also said to be interested.

Lyon president Aulas has previously said that he would not accept a bid less than ÂŁ35 million for the 24 year old.

He said last month: “We will do everything within our powers to hold on to Alexandre.”
