It looks like Nabil Fekir will stay put at Lyon and won’t go to Liverpool. Lyon released a tweet which claimed that Fekir will be honored for his success with the national team at the World Cup before Lyon’s Ligue 1 opener at Amiens on 12th August.

The tweet said, “Nabil Fekir will be presented with the trophy of the World Cup for his return to Groupama Stadium on Sunday 12 August, on the occasion of the 1st day of the Ligue 1 and the reception of Amiens at 3pm!”

The date mentioned in the tweet 12th August is three days after the closure of the transfer window in England. Hence, it seems that Liverpool won’t be able to acquire the services of the French winger.

A month back, Fekir was all set to complete a move to Liverpool. He posed for pictures in a Reds shirt and also had an interview with LFC TV. Then, the club’s medical officials picked up a history of knee injury problems and a £50million deal broke down. Fekir featured in 6 of France’s 7 matches in their victorious World Cup campaign this summer. All of them came as a substitute.

Earlier, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp himself gave a hint that a deal for Fekir was off when he said he was ‘pretty sure’ that Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson would be last signing this summer.

Alisson joined the club on a £68million deal which makes him the most expensive goalkeeper in the world.
