Incoming boss Pep Guardiola could pay £39m for his services
Man City are closing in on a deal to sign Aymeric Laporte, according to reports.
The board at Man City are willing to sign whoever incoming boss Pep Guardiola wants and it is believed that Laporte is high up on his wanted list.
The ex-Barcelona boss is reportedly a big admirer of the defender and wants him to join him at the Etihad this summer. He has previously tried to sign him for Bayern Munich but always failed to do so.
Bilbao want any suitor to trigger his release clause
This is due to the fact that the 21-year old’s current club, Athletic Bilbao, have always demanded £39m for his services, as it is the release clause in his contract. Anything less and they will not accept the bid.
City though are more than willing to pay that amount to land the youngster and secure one of Guardiola’s main targets.
Laporte not only has a very bright future but he is also impressing in the present too – this season for Bilbao he has played a key role for the Spanish side and has established himself as one of their best players.
There’s no doubt he is a talented player and City could be set to bring him to England this summer to help with their defensive solidity.
