Man City join race to sign Cole

Manchester City have entered the race to sign Ashley Cole. The left-back has become a shock target for the Etihad side with Liverpool, Man United and Real Madrid also interested in making moves.

Cole is set to leave Chelsea this summer on a free, and the Premier League leaders are the latest club to make an enquiry. The Blues HAVE offered the England defender a new one- year deal but it is a much worse contract than his current one, and it isn’t as if there are no shortage of offers elsewhere.

The 33-year old would fit the bill at City as he would not only command a transfer fee but also boost the clubs quota of Englishman as they look to follow UEFA rules for next season. They are currently facing a shortage of English talent, with doubts over the future of Jack Rodwell, Gareth Barry, Joleon Lescott and Micah Richards.

He is still highly thought of in the world of football and he is hoping to snatch a place in England’s World Cup squad next month. He may end up going into the World Cup as a Man City player with all signs looking as if he will quit Stamford Bridge, including the tears he shed at the end of Chelsea’s last home game on Sunday.

The Civillians currently have two left-backs in Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov but Italian champions Juventus are keen on signing the latter of the two. Kolarov’s current deal expires next month.
