The Red Devils had officials in attendance to watch Goncalo Guedes play for Benfica at the weekend

Man United are keeping a close eye on Goncalo Guedes of Benfica, according to reports today.

The youngster is viewed as having bags of potential and is not only being tracked by the Red Devils but by several other clubs from around Europe as well, including Juventus.

However, the 19-year old has become a key player for Benfica this year since the departure of several key stars from the Portuguese giants in the summer and they will be extremely reluctant to let him go, even more so because of how talented he is and how brilliant they believe he can become.

He has even become a first-team player for the Portugal national team, despite his young age.

New deal for the youngster

Guedes did sign a new deal at the club over the summer, which should keep him at Benfica for the next five years.

That though is unlikely to ward off any bids from several of Europe’s biggest clubs, with reports today claiming he might leave as soon as next summer if a big enough bid is made.

The Red Devils are certainly keen to bring him to England, having reportedly liked what they saw of the youngster over the weekend. They will though face competition for his signature from several of the other teams who watched him play.

Guedes can play as both a winger or in a more central, attacking role. He has proven he is more than capable of doing a good job in both positions, despite not finding the net as regularly as he would have liked yet, and this versatility is a huge bonus for whoever manages to sign him.
