Man United are planning to make a surprise move for John Obi Mikel, according to reports today.
Jose Mourinho is currently on the lookout for a player that can ease the burden on Paul Pogba and allow the Frenchman more freedom to roam forward rather than playing in a defensive role.
The man that he could end up signing to help matters is John Obi Mikel. The current Chelsea man is a surprise target for the Red Devils but according to reports today, a deal could be on the cards.
Current deal expires in summer
His current deal at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season and with no signs of a new deal emerging yet, he could be allowed to leave for free in the summer.
Therefore, the Blues could decide to cash in on him in January while they can and United are more than happy to offer Chelsea a small fee if it means getting their man.
The fee would likely only be very small – reports claim it could be just £2m – but the Blues are likely to accept it in the knowledge that it is better than letting him leave for nothing at the end of the current campaign.
