United are after a top quality forward to add to their ranks
Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette is reportedly in line to join Louis van Gaal’s new look Manchester United.
Van Gaal has said that he is in the market for a “surprise” front man, with Wayne Rooney, and James Wilson the only out and out strikers currently in United‘s squad.
The Red Devils have lost two of their strikers from last season this summer, after choosing not to sign up flop Radamel Falcao on a permanent deal, and letting Robin van Persie leave for Fenerbahce on a permanent deal.
And now according to the Daily Telegraph, Lacazette has emerged as LVG’s top striking target.
The France international has been heavily linked with a move away from Lyon, despite pledging that he would stay at the Ligue 1 club for one more season.
Liverpool, Arsenal, and PSG were among the clubs interested in Lacazette, but United seem to have stolen a march, and have become favourites to sign the 24 year old.
Lacazette was the top goal scorer in Ligue 1 last season
His 27 goals helped Lyon finish 2nd in the league, earning qualification for the Champions League.
Meanwhile, United remain linked with a number of Europe’s most potent strikers, as they seek to add more fire power to their intimidating squad.
World Cup winner Thomas Muller is one of the names mentioned, who United were reportedly set to bid £40 million for.
Real Madrid‘s Karim Benzema is also rumoured to be a target as Ed Woodward continues his summer spending spree, which has seen Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Matteo Darmian all sign in this window.
