Depay not cutting it for United boss

Manchester United forward Memphis Depay is reportedly not impressing boss Jose Mourinho in training.

The Dutchman has not been included in the squad to play Fenerbahce tomorrow night, and that is reportedly down to him not proving himself in training.

Furthermore, the newspaper also adds that some of his teammates were shocked to see the Portuguese utilise the former PSV Eindhoven man as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Burnley on Saturday.

The 22-year-old has made seven appearances in all competitions so far this seaon, but has only managed to earn one start, which came against Northampton Town in the EFL Cup, a pretty disappointing stats for a player who arrived at United last summer dubbed as one of the best young talents in Europe.

Depay said, as reported by Manchester Evening News: “I am the same person and I know what I want. A supporting role is not for me. I’m not a player who is happy with the fact that he is under contract with Manchester United. The level has become higher. Jose Mourinho is a top coach. Mourinho has expressed his confidence in me. Personally, but also in the press.

“This is my dream club, but I want to play. The training sessions are going well, I’m sharp and fit, but that applies to everyone.”

Depay has seen big competition for places become tougher since the arrival of Mourinho, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan has joined the club. On top of this, players like Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford are all being utilised as wingers and are all currently above him in the Old Trafford pecking order.
