Manchester City defender Micah Richards has admitted that he doesn’t think he will be going to the World Cup next year with England, even if he can get fully fit in time.

The right-back has been plagued with injuries for the last two years and has since struggled to break into the City starting line-up with Pablo Zabaleta being the main contender for the right-back spot.

The 25-year-old, who has made 13 appearances for England, believes that injuries haven’t helped him develop an international career, but he insists that he will never give up and he will try his hardest to be on the plane for Brazil next summer.

He said in The Sun: “I’ve been stuck on 13 caps for some time now – unlucky for some!

“I’m not sure what the answer is. I just need to get fit and play regularly.

“Danny Sturridge is an important player for England but he should have been playing for the last four years – he’s a real talent.

“It’s all about opinions but I hope Roy Hodgson will give me a chance.

“I want to go to Brazil in 2014 as much as the next man and as I can play right-back and centre-half, I can give the manager some options. But I can’t help thinking that unless there are injuries, it won’t happen.

“Picking up niggling injuries isn’t helping so I need to keep fit, do my best and see what happens.”
