City want to beat Liverpool to star goalkeeper

Manchester City are the latest side to be linked with signing FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The German goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move away from the Nou Camp in recent weeks, with Liverpool interested in signing him, but according to reports, City are also in the race.

Liverpool are in the market for a new ‘keeper, despite Simon Mignolet signing a new five-year deal earlier this season. The Belgian has come under heavy scrutiny throughout the season due to high-profile errors, and Jurgen Klopp wants to sign him some legit competition.

Adam Bogdan hasn’t been seen as a real contender for the number-one shirt, and Klopp wants to fix that in the summer, but he’s likely to face competition from Pep Guardiola.

City Rival Interest

The Spaniard, who is set to take over at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, is reportedly keen on City signing ter Stegen as backup to Joe Hart, despite Willy Caballero‘s heroics in yesterday’s Capital One Cup final.

According to reports in Spain, City could eclipse the ÂŁ19million Liverpool are prepared to offer by issuing a deal worth around ÂŁ23.6m.

The 23-year-old is reportedly unsettled at the Nou Camp due to playing second fiddle to Claudio Bravo, but with his contract running until 2019, Barca officials aren’t looking to sell.
