Citizens plan back-up in case Paul Pogba deal fails

Manchester City have highlighted Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph as a potential Summer signing, but only if they fail to lure Juventus star Paul Pogba to the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens are expected to have a busy Summer transfer window, with two formal offers already launched for Liverpool‘s Raheem Sterling, with the latest coming today.

Pogba Main Target

City‘s main transfer target is believed to be Pogba, but with several European giants interested in the Frenchman, Manuel Pellegrini is already putting together a list of other potential targets.

The Old Lady value Pogba at around ÂŁ60million, but that isn’t deemed a problem for City, who are prepared to splash the cash this Summer in order to take the Premier League crown off of Chelsea.

However, if they cannot sign Pogba, they will turn their attentions closer to home and will try to lure Delph away from Villa Park.

Delph Back-Up Plan

Delph is a stand-out performer for Villa, and had another impressive campaign last year despite the club being in a relegation scrap for the majority of the season.

The only issue for City is that the club captain penned a new long-term deal earlier this year, meaning Villa are under no pressure to sell and could ask for a substantial fee.

England Players Needed

City are in dire need of English players due to the Premier League regulations, and Delph would fit that bill and would also give Pellegrini another option in the heart of the midfield.

Sterling would be another English signing if they can get that over the line, and they are also showing interest in Arsenal‘s Jack Wilshere and Fulham‘s Patrick Roberts.
