Aymeric Laporte has been ruled out of action for a number of months after the defender injured his knee.

As a result, Manchester City will reportedly move for Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar in January.

The Premier League champions failed to replace the outgoing Vincent Kompany during the summer, while Aymeric Laporte‘s recent knee operation has left the Citizens short at the back. Manchester City will be without their best central defender for a number of months after he underwent surgery on a knee injury sustained in a tackle against Brighton.

Thankfully Laporte didn’t suffer a torn ACL, as was initially feared, but instead damaged the cartilage and lateral meniscus in his knee. The injury is still set to rule the Frenchman out for a number of months regardless which leaves Pep Guardiola with just Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones as senior centre-back options.

Fernandinho replaced the injured Laporte and did admirably and Guardiola could also call on youngsters Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis if required but City are still short on numbers at the back.

As a result, according to the Daily Mirror, Guardiola is interested in launching another move to sign the highly-rated Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. His initial advances for the Slovakian 24-year-old were rebuffed by the Serie A side this summer.

The report, though, claims that Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to fight for the Slovakia international in January despite Inter’s desire to keep hold of the former Zilina youngster.

Manchester United were also linked with Skriniar during the summer before ultimately breaking the transfer record for a central defender by signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City.
