Arsenal also interested in the teenager

Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has been superb this season and performing at a very highest level. They have won the Premier League with 5 games left, after Manchester United failed to beat West Bromich Albion earlier today.

Though adding quality reinforcements last summer, Pep is still keen add new players in the coming transfer window and has set his eyes on highly rated Ajax defender.

Manchester City are considered the favorites to land Netherlands teenage international defender Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax, reports the  Mirror. De Ligt is being billed as the next Virgil van Dijk after forming an impressive partnership with the Liverpool centre-back at international level.

The 18 year old has already rejected the chance to join Barcelona because he feared he would be left on their bench. Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also interested in him but the Eredivisie club has priced the centre-back at £50 million, which may have priced out both of them leaving City favorites to land him.

When De Ligt was asked about his future, he said:

“I am going to make a decision with my head, not based on money offers.

“I think some players would be tempted when they get massive offers. But compared to ordinary people I think I earn a huge wage right now, anyway.

“My next step just has to be right for me when I look at the team and where and how I will live.”

According to reports, all three clubs had scouts on hand to watch De Ligt when Ajax face off against PSV earlier today.
