Belgian star suffered serious-looking knee injury last night

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful that Kevin De Bruyne’s season isn’t over despite him appearing to suffer a serious knee injury during last night’s game.

The Citizens were taking on Everton in the Capital One Cup Semi-Final, and after coming off from the bench, De Bruyne got himself on the scoresheet during City‘s 3-1 win, which booked their place in the final at Wembley.

However, in stoppage time, the ÂŁ55million midfielder fell awkwardly and immediately grabbed his knee in pain, with people suspecting ligament damage being done.

Speaking after the game, Pellegrini discussed the injury and is hopeful that the Belgian will be back at some point this season.

Optimistic

“I’m optimistic he won’t be out for the rest of the season,” Pellegrini said.

“We’ll see how important the damage is. It’s not the cruciate ligament.

“The doctor thinks, but he cannot be sure, that it’s a problem in his medial ligament.”

Robles Apology

After the incident happened, Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles kept trying to lift De Bruyne to his feet to carry the game on, but he has since taken to Twitter to apologise, insisting he had no idea how serious the injury was.

“I would like to apologise to Kevin de Bruyne for my reaction to his injury,”tweeted the 25-year-old Spaniard.

“In the heat of the moment I didn’t realise he was badly hurt. I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.”
