Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is showing interest in Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel as he eyes defensive reinforcements for the new season.
The Chilean hasn’t been impressed with trio Joleon Lescott, Martin Demichelis and Matija Nastasić, and he is keen to find a suitable partner for captain Vincent Kompany in order to strengthen his team for next season.
The Slovakian has been in superb form for The Reds this season and even scored twice during their 5-1 victory over Arsenal, and it is believed that Pellegrini is keen to bring him to the Etihad Stadium, if the fee can be agreed between the two parties.
It is believed that Skrtel, who signed a new contract extension in 2012, is desperate to play Champions League football, and if Brendan Rodgers’ side do fail to achieve a top-four finish, a move could be on the cards.
