According to reports, Manchester City are interested in signing Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder Rodri as a replacement for Fernandinho. Manchester City are keen to find a long term replacement for Fernandinho and are looking for replacements for the Brazilian. Fernandinho has been in fine form for Pep Guardiola’s side this season but he is approaching his mid-30s and thus, City are looking at the bigger picture.
Earlier, they were interested in signing Saul but the midfielder’s release clause of £128 million seemed too much. Now, they are looking to sign 22-year old Rodri as his release clause of £60.6 million is affordable.
Provided Manchester City pay Rodri’s release clause, it will be a club record, surpassing Riyad Mahrez’s transfer fee of £60.6 million last summer.
Rodri has been a regular for Atletico Madrid and has made 42 appearances for the club this season, scoring two goals.
Manchester City aren’t the only club interested in signing Rodri as many of Europe’s top clubs have kept close tabs on the Spaniard.
