Manchester City eyeing move for Brazilian star

Manchester City is targeting Fred as a replacement for Fernandinho.

With Fernandinho turning 33 in a few months, and Yaya Toure out of contract the coming summer, Pep Guardiola is interested in working out close to a ÂŁ30m deal for Fred.

Talks are on about handing a potential extension to Fernandinho, but given that age is not exactly on his side, Guardiola doesn’t mind roping in younger players to maintain the balance.

To figure out what lies ahead for the club, Guardiola has had talks with director of football Txiki Begiristain, Chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak, and chief executive Ferran Soriano.

Fred is already in the news for his potential connections to Arsenal and Manchester United, but City is keen on looking for a deal for the Brazilian this month itself, or more conveniently, in the summer.

The 24-year-old, who plies his trade for Shakhtar Donetsk, has reportedly impressed Guardiola by his playing style during City’s two games against his current club in the Champions League group stage.
