Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that striker Sergio Aguero could be ruled out much longer than what they initially thought.

The first diagnosis was that the Argentine would miss around a month due to the groin problem he picked up during the 6-3 thrashing of Arsenal.

However, the Chilean boss has revealed that the duration could be doubled now with the forward set to potentially miss up to two months.

“The doctor has said he has at least one month or eight weeks,” he said.

“I don’t know how many weeks but it will be at least one month,” added Pellegrini. “It is very difficult to know at this moment.”

If Aguero is sidelined for eight weeks, he will miss two vital Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

He could also sit out the first leg of City’s Championship League tie against Barcelona, which takes place mid-February.
