Blues want Southampton defender to sort out defence

Manchester City are planning a £50million January move for Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk.

It’s thought that Pep Guardiola wants to defender to tighten up his leaky defence, as they try to keep in touch with Chelsea at the top of the league.

It’s thought the player is aware of the interest and would find it difficult to resist the prospect of playing Champions League football.

Guardiola wants a player with Premier League experience to lead his back 4 into better performances in the second half of the season.

Southampton hope to keep their prized asset until at least the summer, but a bid of around £50m could force a change of heart.

That would represent a significant profit on the £13m Saints paid Celtic for Van Dijk in September 2015.
