Manchester City are unwilling to meet the asking price of  Mateo Kovacic

According to reports from Sky Sports, the Premier League champions were initially linked to Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic. But due to his over valuing asking price, the player might not be a part of the current Premier League champions.

Real Madrid has reportedly asked for £80 million for the player which according to Manchester city is quite high.

The midfielder joined the Spanish side in the year 2015 and had signed a six-year deal with the club. The transfer fee was €29 million, according to the financial filing of Inter Milan.

He has already won three consecutive Champions League and one La Liga title with the European giants.

But since joining them, the Croatian has struggled to lock down a starting role at the Santiago Bernabeu . He has failed to oust countryman Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casimero and often been reduced to the bench. The 24 year old just managed to make start 37 La Liga games in the last three year and appeared 32 times in all competitions last season.

In his last interview with Marca, the player admitted of leaving the Spanish side.

He said,  “I want to play more and the best thing is to leave Madrid.”

There were reports that Premier League club Tottenham have shown strong interest in him, who has a £44 million release clause, and are monitoring his situation. He has also been linked with a return to his former club Inter Milan.

While it was seen that City boss Pep Guardiola was happy with his squad as they prepare to fly to the USA on Tuesday for their pre-season tour.

Mateo Kovacic was one of the key member in the Croatian squad that reached the finals of the Wrold Cup.
