Manchester United and Liverpool are set to step up their interest in signing Southampton and England right back Nathaniel Clyne in the summer.

Clyne’s current contract runs out at the end of the season, and some reports suggest that the two clubs could make a move in January, although a summer bid is probable.

If a move went ahead, Clyne would be reunited with some of his teammates from last season that were part of the mass summer exit from St. Mary’s.

Luke Shaw moved to Old Trafford for ÂŁ27 million, whereas Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren all joined Liverpool.

A source close to Southampton told Goal: “There is a real worry at the club about Nathaniel; some very big clubs are circling.”

The Saints are looking to offer Clyne a new contract, but it remains to be seen where the player’s heart lies.

Southampton remain in the top 4 for the time being, and Clyne will want to play Champions League football next season.
