Manchester United are likely to be very active in the summer transfer window to challenge for the title next season . With many players expected to leave, Jose Mourinho has prioritized adding defensive reinforcements this summer.
United have already been linked with host of left backs like Alex Sandro, Danny Rose and Ryan Bertrand. Luke Shaw is likely to leave this summer after falling out with the manager.
But Mourinho is also interested in adding a new centre back. United have host of options in the heart of defence, but the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof have failed to inspire confidence. Marcos Rojo has missed almost the entire season due to the injuries.
Manchester United are scouting Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson as Mourinho continues his search for a new defender, claims The Sun.
The Portuguese has been impressed by Mawson, who has been a regular for the Swansea team this team. United have also sent scouts to watch him against West Brom last weekend where the defender gave an assured, confident display in the 1-1 draw.
Since joining Swansea, The six-cap England Under-21s star has gone from strength to strength and recently even earned his first senior international call-up last month.
According to reports, the 24 year old is likely to cost in excess of £40million but that hasn’t put off United as they are ready to spend big.
