AS Monaco have confirmed two parties are in talks

Manchester United and AS Monaco have begun formal talks regarding a potential deal over Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian international left the French side on Transfer Deadline Day in the Summer on a season-long loan to Manchester United, but the striker has failed to impress at Old Trafford, scoring just four goals.

After a dismal loan spell, it was thought that United would not exercise their option to make it a permanent deal, but according to reports, officials at the club are still undecided on what to do with the Colombian.

As part of the loan deal, United and Monaco agreed that the Premier League club could make it a permanent move at the end of the season for £43.5million, but Ed Woodward wants to strike a deal with the French side which sees them pay considerably less due to his poor campaign at the club.

Falcao has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus if a chance to join United permanently doesn’t arise, and more recently, he has also been linked with a shock move to Liverpool, but Monaco have confirmed that they are in discussions with The Red Devils.

The club’s vice-president revealed that they met on Sunday to discuss Falcao’s situation, but confirmed that no final decision has been made.

Vadim Vasilyev said: ‘I saw the Manchester United people last Sunday and they have not yet decided if they would exercise the option..

‘It’s not his best season, but they kept the opportunity to make a decision at the end of the season.

‘We are not in any other negotiations, even if big clubs are interested. The decision is with Manchester, then we will discuss with the player what he wants. I would like to have more visibility.’
