Manchester United have begun looking into the possibility of bringing Paris-Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos to the Premier League this January.
The Red Devils are actively seeking a central defender after coming under-fire for some poor defensive performances this season, and it is understood that Marquinhos tops boss Louis Van Gaal’s wishlist this transfer window.
With Barcelona also known to be long-term admirers of the Brazilian, United have moved one step further than the Spanish giants by making intial contacts with the defender before beginning negotiations with PSG.
United have also made it known to the player that if they do not succeed in their attempts to capture him in this transfer window, they are willing to persure the defender in the summer.
It is still not clear whether the French champions would let Marquinhos go, but with the player having to settle for a place on the bench behind David Luiz and Thiago Silva, it appears that the final decision will be in the player’s hands.
With a hefty price tag almost certain to be slapped upon Marquinhos it would seem down to Manchester United just how far they would go in order to sign the highly-rated young Brazilian.
