Manchester United Boss To Work On Set Pieces Ahead Of Newcastle United

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer understands that defending set pieces is one of his team’s weakest points and is willing to work on it ahead of the Newcastle United game on Wednesday.

The Red Devils claimed yet another victory under their new caretaker boss last weekend against AFC Bournemouth. Paul Pogba scored a brace and Eric Bailly picked up a red card to finish the night at Old Trafford with a 4-1 showing.

While the goals have been racking up on the opposite end, Solskjaer has noticed the ones that have been entering United’s own goal line. The Norwegian boss has yet to record a clean sheet in his dream start to his Red Devil’s managerial career.

He said, “We need to keep clean sheets. We have not done that so far, so we know there are loads of things we need to work on, but this is the way we want to see ourselves: Attacking.”

“We’ve conceded three goals from three set pieces. [Bournemouth’s goal] came from the one chance they had. We don’t concede too many chances in open play and that is great, but we have got to concentrate.”

Nathan Ake managed to guide the ball past David De Gea from one of Cherries’ corner kicks after some impressive work from Brooks.

“We saw it [from the sidelines] that they were going to do that, but it’s difficult to shout the instructions. It was easier back home [in Norway]; they would hear me there.”

United are still 8 points behind Chelsea from the top four spot and have a challenge awaiting them at St James’ Park on 2 January.
