Manchester United are positive that goalkeeper David de Gea will sign a new long term contract with the club following Thibaut Courtois’ transfer to Real Madrid. De Gea’s present contract ends in 2019.

De Gea has been linked to a move to Real Madrid for a long time. A deal was almost made when both clubs agreed on a ÂŁ29 million swap of De Gea and Keylor Navas. However, the deal collapsed because of untimely completion of paperwork.

Ever since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011, De Gea has been an integral player in United’s setup. Replacing Edwin van der sar at goal, the 27-year old has played 316 matches for the Red Devils.

De Gea has been in the PFA Team of the Year on five occasions. Last season, he won the Golden Glove for making 18 clean sheets. The Spaniard did a pretty good job against Leicester City as well.

Manchester United will next play Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
