Red Devils feel they can beat Liverpool to striker

Manchester United are confident that securing Champions League football will make them favourites to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings ahead of their fierce-rivals Liverpool.

The Englishman is out of contract at the end of the season and has told The Clarets that he wants to leave in the Summer in order to progress his career, meaning they will lose him on a free.

However, if he remains in England, which is looking likely, the club who sign him would have to pay a compensation fee due to him being under-25.

It’s believed the fee will be around ÂŁ5million.

Both Liverpool and United have shown interest in the striker, who has had a great season in the Premier League, scoring nine goals for Sean Dyche’s men.

United in Pole Position

According to reports, The Red Devils are favourites to sign Ings and are feeling confident about the deal due to finishing in the top-four and regaining a Champions League spot.

Louis Van Gaal’s men are eight points ahead of Liverpool and are confident of a top-four finish now and the Dutchman is ready for yet another Summer of spending.

Attackers and defenders are on his wishlist for the Summer with Ings, Mats Hummels and Edinson Cavani all linked with moves to Old Trafford.

As for Liverpool, it seems they will have to look elsewhere for their striker.

Brendan Rodgers has seemingly given up on Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert, who have all failed to impress in front of goal this season.
