Deschamps says Pogba will not be captain

Manchester United are in no mood to rush Paul Pogba contract talks, according to sources. The French midfielder arrived at the Old Trafford in 2016 from Juventus for a world record ÂŁ89.3m.

Pogba had a wonderful world cup as he led the French team from the front guiding them to the title. United hoped to bank on the player this season but the 25 year old is yet to get back to his prime as the Red Devils have endured a tough season.

Back to back defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur diminished their title chances but they bounced back with a strong performance against Burnley.

Pogba’s world cup medal has added a new dimension to his value and United want to preserve their most valuable asset for a longer period. Barcelona came calling in the summer for the midfielder but CEO Ed Woodward was in no mood in doing business.

Pogba put pen to paper on a five year deal which means he is at least staying at the club till 2021. But there is also a one year extension clause and should the club chose to trigger it the talismanic midfielder will extend his stay for another season.
