Manchester United duo out of Champions League tie

Manchester United manager David Moyes has confirmed that duo Nemanja Vidic and Robin Van Persie will not travel with the squad to Germany for their Champions League tie with Bayer Leverkusen.

The injured pair missed Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City and in today’s press conference, Moyes confirmed that this fixture has come too soon for both of them.

“They are both injured,” said Moyes.

“Nemanja Vidic had concussion and Robin has a problem with his groin.

“Neither of them are long-term but they are not quite ready yet.”

The Serbian centre-back suffered a serious head-injury against Arsenal just before the international break, and Van Persie picked up his groin injury on international duty with Netherlands.

They are both expected to be fit for the weekend clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
