Red Devils want to beat Chelsea to Everton defender
Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Everton centre-back John Stones.
The Red Devils are still in the market for a new defender with Louis Van Gaal still failing to address the department despite making four signings already this summer.
United’s Defensive Hunt
Van Gaal has purchased a new right-back, but United are still lacking options at the heart of the defence.
Nicolas Otamendi, Sergio Ramos and Mats Hummels have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but according to this morning’s reports, United could try and hijack Chelsea‘s deal for Stones.
Chelsea’s Bid Rejected
The Toffees defender is wanted by Jose Mourinho as he sees him as a long-term replacement for John Terry.
Chelsea have already had a formal bid rejected by Everton, a fee of ÂŁ20million, and according to reports, Roberto Martinez wants around ÂŁ36m for the 21-year-old.
Stones is predicted to have a big campaign at Goodison Park, but he’s reportedly told club officials that he’s ready for a move to a bigger club.
Everton Angry at Chelsea
After Everton have been left furious with the way Chelsea dealt with the negotiations, it’s believed United could be favourites to land the Englishman.
Martinez publicly voiced his anger at Mourinho and co. for how public they went with the transfer saga, and it now looks like it could cost them.
