Real Madrid have entered the bidding to sign Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, denting Manchester United’s hopes of signing the player.
The Red Devils were lining up a January move for the player to reinforce their midfield options, and Dortmund had quoted them £20m.
But Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has identified the midfielder as a possible addition and is set to make a move to beat the competition to the German star’s signature.
However money was no object for United in the summer and they have shown they have the financial muscle to recruit almost anyone, setting the scene for an interesting transfer battle.
