Red Devils could break own world record fee to sign forward
Manchester United are hopeful that the signing of Paul Pogba will help the club in their attempts to lure Antoine Griezmann away from Atletico Madrid.
The France international is in serious demand, having been Atletico’s main man for some time now and United’s interest is no secret.
Red Devils chiefs are hopeful that the fact Griezmann’s friend and France teammate is back at Old Trafford, can help to lure the 25-year-old to the club, ahead of fellow suitors Arsenal and Chelsea.
Griezmann has previously stated he will not leave the club while Diego Simeone is at the club, however, with the Atletico manager’s future at the Vicente Calderon under doubt, in the long term, a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.
United would have to break the world record transfer fee, once again, if they are to land the France star, with his release clause set at £89.3 million.
Arsenal and Chelsea are both understood to be interested also, but the fact that Pogba left Juventus for a return to Old Trafford this summer and that he and Griezmann enjoy a close friendship, could be beneficial.
“We get on very well. It is true that the Euros has brought us closer together still.” Griezmann said of his relationship with Pogba, earlier in the year.
“Paul is a really nice guy. He is it! We send messages, Snapchats. He’s really a good friend.
“When he plays with his club, I try to look at it to see if he had a good game or not.”
