United want to long-term Rooney replacement
Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is a long-term target for Manchester United, as Jose Mourinho sees him as an ideal replacement for Wayne Rooney.
The Atletico and France star is currently settled in Spain, so no clubs have managed to tempt him away yet, but Mourinho is working on it. It could become a realistic prospect in 2017.
The star would add to a spree that begun this summer and has included Zlatan Ibrahimovic and world record signing Paul Pogba, with both players delivering in the early stages of their time at the club.
Last month, Griezmann sang the praises of United, saying it was the perfect club for his national team pal Pogba.
“Manchester [United] is the perfect club for him, with Mourinho they are making something new,” he said.
