Manchester United look set to add to their defence in January after being linked with a move for FC Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi.

Martins Indi only joined the Portuguese side in the summer from Feyenord, however Van Gaal’s knows the defender well after managing him during his spell with the Dutch national team.

United have had to rely on youth defenders this season with Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett called upon to fill the gaps in United’s struggling backline, and Van Gaal hopes to add some bodies in the upcoming transfer window.

A fee of around ÂŁ10 million has been mooted to be enough to prize Martins Indi to Old Trafford, which would represent good value for money as he’s still only 22.

Ron Vlaar is another name linked to United so it’s more than likely that we’ll see a defender joining Louis Van Gaal’s side once the January transfer window opens.
