Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed that English champions Manchester United also made a bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale.

The Welshman, who eventually joined the Spanish side in the summer for a whopping ÂŁ86million, was being looked at by David Moyes at United, but it appeared that nothing official came from their interest.

However, in an interview, Perez admitted that there was a bid on the table from United for the 24-year-old winger.

Not only did he reveal that there was an offer from The Red Devils, he also said that he believes Madrid got the player for cheap, despite being the world’s most expensive transfer.

Perez told Cadena SER radio: ‘Bale has come cheaply. Signing the best players out there is Madrid’s philosophy and Bale was the best available player on the market this summer. We had been following him for two years.

‘Tottenham did not want to sell. We learned that Manchester United had made an offer and we made one ourselves.’
